A Letter Sent to the Post Master General

The following letter was sent by a friend of mine to the Post Master General.

Dear Postmaster General,

I understand that you are considering reducing the mail delivery schedule from six days a week to five days. I would like to suggest an appropriate day to cut out of the USPS delivery schedule, and the reasons why. Monday is the most logical day to cut, because it is most financially sound, and is best for the morale and health of all postal employees. Several of the reasons fall into more than one category, so I ask that you to examine these reasons as to why Monday is the best day to add as a USPS day off.

Most federal and state holidays fall on Monday, so there is a savings on holiday pay, and there will be fewer additional days off because all holidays will fall on a regularly scheduled day off for the USPS. The Monday morning hangover of USPS employees and the general public will not conflict with each other on the highway, and will no longer put others at risk on the road. There could also be a reduction in accidents, eliminate false sick days taken, while serving to increase the morale of USPS employees. More can be accomplished by USPS employees with 2 consecutive days off. Imagine being able to include doctor visits and other personal business errands that are impossible to accomplish on weekends because some businesses are closed, or the USPS employee simply refuses to make time on his day off to tend to these tasks.

Other people may find additional reasons why Monday would be the best day off. I am sure if you look at this, you will probably see the benefits as well. If you do need to cut a delivery day each week, this seems to be the most beneficial and offers additional benefits besides cost cutting. If only there was as reasonable way of cutting down on junk mail, but I guess we can't have everything.

A GUNFIGHTER, A PATRIOT, DIED MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.

Serving in the Marines from 1961-1972 as a staff sergeant, he was later given the honorary rank of gunnery sergeant because of his ongoing support of military personnel everywhere, and because of his gritty portrayal of Gunny Hartmann. He had a decorated career before being medically retired in 1972 because of the numerous injuries he sustained in his years of service. Ermey's service awards can be seen here:

Ermey succumbed to complications associated with pneumonia at 3:14 AM at his home in San Diego. His nearly sixty film appearances will continue to inspire and cement his legacy for many years to come.

About 3,500 acres of southern Arizona on the Mexican border have been closed off to U.S. citizens because it cannot be defended against Mexican nationals engaging in violence against law enforcement officers and U.S. citizens in the area.

The closed area has been adversely affected by an increase in drug smugglers and illegal activity, which has made it dangerous for Americans to visit.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu has stated, " I he stood with Senator McCain and has demanded support for 3,000 soldiers to be deployed to Arizona to get this under control to secure the border with Mexico. “

Sheriff Babeu also said, "We need support from the federal government. It’s their job to secure the border and they haven’t done it." Babeu went on, “In fact, President Obama suspended the construction of the fence and it’s just simply outrageous.”

When President Obama was sworn into office, he took the following oath; "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution says the following; We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. Section 8 of the Constitution mandates that the Congress is to suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions.

Insofar as I can tell, the fact that President Obama has halted construction on the border fence, and is not securing the U.S./Mexico border is an abrogation of his oath of office. The inaction of Obama and the Congress to provide for the security and welfare of American citizens on our own land is an act of capitulation to Mexico. The laws of our land are being broken by foreigners who are invading Arizona. By not securing the area and keeping Americans from their rightful lands, The federal government has failed in its Constitutional mandates. Our federal goverment under President Obama has in essence, surrendered sovereign American territory to a foreign country. A foreign power has annexed part of Arizona. and not a single shot was fired!

It is an outrage that the leadership of this nation has turned a blind eye by allowing our border with Mexico to be breached by Mexican invaders. The President of the United States, the Senate Majority Leader and the Speaker of the House are guilty of malfeasance and possibly treason against the American people in their failure to uphold their oath of office; an oath which legally binds them to protect and to defend the U.S. Constitution and the United States of America.

It is time that the American people make the demand that the House Judiciary Committee immediately holds hearings to investigate evidence of malfeasance, high crimes and misdemeanors by President Obama. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid must be removed from their leadership positions to prevent obstruction of justice in these matters.

I have noted that many elected officials, both Democrats and Republicans, called upon America to unite behind Obama.

Well, I want to make it clear to all who will listen that I AM NOT uniting behind Obama !

I will respect the Office which he holds, and I will acknowledge his abilities as an orator and wordsmith and pray for him, BUT that is it.

I have begun today to see what I can do to make sure that he is a one-term President !

Why am I doing this ?

It is because:

- I do not share Obama's vision or value system for America ;

- I do not share his Abortion beliefs;

- I do not share his radical Marxist's concept of re-distributing wealth;

- I do not share his stated views on raising taxes on those who make $150,000+ (the ceiling has been changed three times since August);

- I do not share his view that America is Arrogant;

- I do not share his view that America is not a Christian Nation;

- I do not share his view that the military should be reduced by 25%;

- I do not share his view of amnesty and giving more to illegals than our American Citizens who need help;

- I do not share his views that Radical Islam is our friend and Israel is our enemy who should give up any land;

- I do not share his spiritual beliefs (at least the ones he has made public);

- I do not share his beliefs on how to re-work the healthcare system in America ;

- I do not share his Strategic views of the Middle East ; and

- I certainly do not share his plan to sit down with terrorist regimes such as Iran ..

Bottom line: my America is vastly different from Obama's, and I have a higher obligation to my Country and my GOD to do what is Right !

For eight (8) years, the Liberals in our Society, led by numerous entertainers who would have no platform and no real credibility but for their celebrity status, have attacked President Bush, his family, and his spiritual beliefs !

They have not moved toward the center in their beliefs and their philosophies, and they never came together nor compromised their personal beliefs for the betterment of our Country!

They have portrayed my America as a land where everything is tolerated except being intolerant !

They have been a vocal and irreverent minority for years !

They have mocked and attacked the very core values so important to the founding and growth of our Country !

They have made every effort to remove the name of GOD or Jesus Christ from our Society !

They have challenged capital punishment, the right to bear firearms, and the most basic principles of our criminal code !

They have attacked one of the most fundamental of all Freedoms, the right of free speech !

Unite behind Obama? Never ! ! !

I am sure many of you who read this think that I am going overboard, but I refuse to retreat one more inch in favor of those whom I believe are the embodiment of Evil!

PRESIDENT BUSH made many mistakes during his Presidency, and I am not sure how history will judge him. However, I believe that he weighed his decisions in light of the long established Judeo-Christian principles of our Founding Fathers!!!

Majority rules in America , and I will honor the concept; however, I will fight with all of my power to be a voice in opposition to Obama and his "goals for America .."

I am going to be a thorn in the side of those who, if left unchecked, will destroy our Country ! ! Any more compromise is more defeat !

I pray that the results of this election will wake up many who have sat on the sidelines and allowed the Socialist-Marxist anti-GOD crowd to slowly change so much of what has been good in America !

"The conditions of incarceration at best will be overcrowded and uncomfortable, and more likely can be described as deplorable and intolerable," said Philadelphia-based defense attorney Theodore Simon. "The most basic requirements will be in question -- and the basic services," he said. "So I think it's going to be an incredible shock to his system, the circumstances of his incarceration." Simon said Van Der Sloot will find the criminal justice system much harsher and far slower in Peru than in Aruba, adding that it's unlikely the Dutch national will be released any time soon.

"He's going to confront something quite different," Simon said.

In addition, the murder victim's status as the daughter of a former Peruvian presidential candidate will place Van Der Soot "at a marked disadvantage,"

It is my opinion that it is quite apparent that the poor little globe trotting rich boy is a narcissistic psychopath. This will not allow Joran to mix well in a third-world, Peruvian jail. There's no protective custody in Peruvian jail. Little Joran isn't in Aruba anymore. Joran's late father, Paulus Van Der Sloot, was a lawyer training to be a judge in Aruba. Now, daddy isn't around to pull the strings to protect and cover-up for his son. I doubt that Van Der Sloot will survive out the year. This makes Joran Van Der Sloot my odds-on favorite Ghoul Pool pick for 2010!

An Open Letter To The People of the Great State of Arizona

Dear Arizona,

By now, there is considerable fallout from Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s signing of your state’s tough (but needed) new immigration law, which allows police officers in your great state to determine if people are in the United States illegally.

Although I was born in Phoenix, I was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. On Monday, San Francisco city officials called for a boycott of Arizona and businesses based there to protest Arizona’s strict new immigration law. As a resident living in a suburb of San Francisco, I cannot tell you how embarrassed I am for a scenically beautiful city like San Francisco.

San Francisco is run by misguided people. The city suffers from a cultural blight of it’s own. San Francisco is a city that prides itself as a sanctuary city that shelters thousands of illegal immigrants within its city limits. San Francisco also refuses to seek the death penalty for cop killers and is a haven for the homeless who use the city’s doorways as urinals. There is also a moral decay that infects San Francisco. But, this letter is to the people of Arizona, and is not intended to showcase the shortcomings of San Francisco. The nation is well aware of those shortcomings.

This letter is intended to let the people of Arizona know that we the people who supported, and who voted to pass Proposition 187 with 58.93% of the vote in 1994, are behind you. Proposition 187 was a measure that would have mandated that illegal aliens become ineligible for public services. Additionally the proposal would have made the verification and reporting of one’s immigration status a sate law. Unfortunately, the courts overruled the will of the people of California, and struck down the new law.

It is my desire to tell Arizonans that not only me, but many of my fellow citizens of the great state of California disagree with the movements and protests against your great state, and your state's attempt to effectively deal with a problem that the federal government has so dismally failed in dealing with; the problem of illegal immigration.

Take heart Arizona, regardless of what the misguided progressives of California would have you believe, the eyes of America loving Californians are upon you! The eyes of those of this nation, who love this country, and who are in solidarity with you, are on you too!

Thank you, Arizona, for your bravery! Thank you for your courage! The message that you are sending to the rest of this nation and the lawbreakers who are here illegally is being heard loud and clear!

Fox News Report: A priest in Britain is under fire Monday for advising his congregation to shoplift in tough economic times, the Daily Mail reports.

Father Tim Jones, a 41-year-old clergyman at St. Lawrence Church in York, England, said that shoplifting — rather than prostitution or burglary — is sometimes the best option for poor people struggling to make ends meet, according to the Web site.

"My advice as a Christian priest is to shoplift," Jones reportedly told churchgoers during his Sunday sermon. "I do not offer such advice because I think that stealing is a good thing, or because I think it is harmless, for it is neither."

"I would ask that they do not steal from small family businesses, but from large national businesses — knowing that the costs are ultimately passed on to the rest of us in the form of higher prices," he continued.

"I would ask them not to take any more than they need, for any longer than they need ... My advice does not contradict the Bible's eighth commandment because God's love for the poor and despised outweighs the property rights of the rich."

Jones' sermon, meanwhile, has been blasted by police, the British Retail Consortium and a local MP who all say that shoplifting is a crime regardless of circumstances.

The Eighth Commandment is not a suggestion, it is God COMMANDING that humanity not engage in theft. God's edict to us that we are not to steal is quite clear. His will for us is that we are not to take from others that which does not belong to us. If God thought theft and stealing was not such a big deal, then there would not be an 8th Commandment.

Father Tim Jones' cavalier treatment of the 8th Commandment teaches people that the breaking of a law, when it serves their own self interest, is perfectly acceptable. Father Jones is teaching people that if it is OK to break God's laws and prohibitions, this in turn gives people the belief that if they are free to break God's laws, which then makes it's justifiable to break man's laws.

We are seeing the teaching and advancement of situational ethics from a cleric who claims to be a representative of Christ and the Christian church. He does not teach absolutes or in black and white. He teaches that lines and boundaries can be diluted, bent and changed when it makes achieving ones own agenda convenient. While doing this, Father Jones is also teaching class warfare and collectivist ideologies.

Father Jones is encouraging the breaking of laws which further contribute to the breakdown of society and civilization. He advocates an entitlement mindset where it is OK to 'stick it to the man', instead of encouraging civility, hard work and self reliance, Father Jones teaches that it is OK to hijack the fruits of the labor of someone else.

The good father is teaching his flock what the world's liberals, socialists, progressives and what the American democrat already does in practice; Take from those who work to earn and who have something. Then, redistribute those earnings and properties to those who believe they are entitled to that which they themselves have failed to earn. ABC News reports a 10-year-old boy was kidnapped after his father tricked a court into giving him custody. Jean Philippe Lacombe, 41, allegedly fooled a court into helping him get custody of his son by presenting documents in Spanish that he said gave him legal custody of his son Jean Paul. The document was actually a warrant from Mexico for his arrest, but the court couldn't read it and believed Lacombe.

According to the mother's lawyer Miquel Ortiz, Lacombe kidnapped his son once before in 2005, fleeing from Mexico to France with the boy before the mother, Bernice Diaz regained custody. "The child is on daily medication for emotional problems stemming from the first kidnapping and now he's not taking it. That's our main concern," Ortiz said. "He has also made claims that his father physically abuses him."

Of course, this would not have been an issue had the democrats over the years, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden, not opposed legislation that would have made English the national language.

The movement to make English the national language began gathering steam during the 104th Congress while Bill Clinton was in office. Several pieces of legislation were introduced in that era, then and again over the years. The democrats have successfully opposed all attempts to make English the national language. Had we as a nation made English the national language the federal and state governments would be required to conduct all business in English. Had this been the case, the court in Texas' Bexer County would have not allowed the boy to be kidnapped by his father.

I place blame on the democrat's fear of angering a potential voting block of millions of American Hispanics and the possible future new citizens of this country of amnesty granted illegal aliens at the expense of justice. The democrats want those Hispanic votes, and if the democrats keep it their way, those votes may number into the millions. God forbid the democrats do what's best for the country to risk the alienation of the millions of votes that could come from the current and future Hispanic support base of the DNC political machine.

I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate. Now I live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.

One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.

I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.

I can't figure out what country you are the president of. You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:

"We're no longer a Christian nation"
"America is arrogant" - (Your wife even announced to the world, "America is mean-spirited." Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.)

The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you're thinking of.

Down in Dothan, AL, a man had a TV on in his office when the news of the military base shootings came on. The husband of one of his employees was stationed there. He called her into his office and the minute he told her what was going on, she got a text message from her husband saying, "I am okay." The cell phone started ringing right after that. It was an ER nurse. She said, "I'm the one who just sent you a text, not your husband." She thought the message would be comforting, but she immediately knew she had to let the wife know what was going on. She said, "I am sorry but your husband has been shot 4 times and he is in surgery."

The wife left Southern Clinic in Dothan and drove all night. Miraculously, here is the photo I just received from my brother that was taken today in the hospital room. He is awake and will recover. His wife, who lives in Dothan, made it to Ft. Hood about the time he was waking up. Thought I'd share this great outcome.

Monday, the Associated Press (AP) reported investigative officials as saying that Maj. Nidal Hasan of the Fort Hoord massacre will be charged by the U.S. military under the UCMJ rather than in civilian court.

The following is Article 118 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, under which Maj. Hasan may be charged. Article 118 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice authorizes only two sentences for the crime of premeditated murder: death or life imprisonment. The latter entails at least the possibility of parole.

If found guilty, convicted then sentenced to death under Article 118 of the UCMJ, the only way Maj Hasan could escape being executed is if his sentence is commuted by the President under Article 71(a) of the UCMJ.

Text.
“Any person subject to this chapter who, without justification or excuse, unlawfully kills a human being, when he—”

(1)has a premeditated design to kill;

(2)intends to kill or inflict great bodily harm;

(3)is engaged in an act that is inherently dangerous to another and evinces a wanton disregard of human life; or

(4)is engaged in the perpetration or attempted perpetration of burglary, sodomy, rape, robbery, or aggravated arson; is guilty of murder, and shall suffer such punishment as a court-martial may direct, except that if found guilty under clause (1) or (4), he shall suffer death or imprisonment for life as a court-martial may direct.
Elements.

(1) Premeditated murder.
(a) That a certain named or described person is dead;
(b) That the death resulted from the act or omission of the accused;
(c) That the killing was unlawful; and
(d) That, at the time of the killing, the accused had a premeditated design to kill.

(2) Intent to kill or inflict great bodily harm.
(a) That a certain named or described person is dead;

(d) That, at the time of the killing, the accused was engaged in the perpetration or attempted perpetration of burglary, sodomy, rape, robbery, or aggravated arson.
Explanation.

(1) In general. Killing a human being is unlawful when done without justification or excuse. See R.C.M. 916. Whether an unlawful killing constitutes murder or a lesser offense depends upon the circumstances. The offense is committed at the place of the act or omission although the victim may have died elsewhere. Whether death occurs at the time of the accused’s act or omission, or at some time thereafter, it must have followed from an injury received by the victim which resulted from the act or omission.

(2) Premeditated murder.
(a) Premeditation. A murder is not premeditated unless the thought of taking life was consciously conceived and the act or omission by which it was taken was intended. Premeditated murder is murder committed after the formation of a specific intent to kill someone and consideration of the act intended. It is not necessary that the intention to kill have been entertained for any particular or consider-able length of time. When a fixed purpose to kill has been deliberately formed, it is immaterial how soon afterwards it is put into execution. The existence of premeditation may be inferred from the circumstances.
(b) Transferred premeditation. When an accused with a premeditated design attempted to unlawfully kill a certain person, but, by mistake or inadvertence, killed another person, the accused is still criminally responsible for a premeditated murder, because the premeditated design to kill is transferred from the intended victim to the actual victim.
(c) Intoxication. Voluntary intoxication (see R.C.M. 916(1)(2)) not amounting to legal insanity may reduce premeditated murder (Article 118(1)) to unpremeditated murder (Article 118(2) or (3)) but it does not reduce either premeditated murder or unpremeditated murder to manslaughter (Article 119) or any other lesser offense.

(3) Intent to kill or inflict great bodily harm.
(a) Intent. An unlawful killing without premeditation is also murder when the accused had either an intent to kill or inflict great bodily harm. It may be inferred that a person intends the natural and probable consequences of an act purposely done. Hence, if a person does an intentional act likely to result in death or great bodily injury, it may be inferred that death or great bodily injury was in-tended. The intent need not be directed toward the person killed, or exist for any particular time before commission of the act, or have previously existed at all. It is sufficient that it existed at the time of the act or omission (except if death is inflicted in the heat of a sudden passion caused by adequate provocation— see paragraph 44). For example, a person committing housebreaking who strikes and kills the householder attempting to prevent flight can be guilty of murder even if the householder was not seen until the moment before striking the fatal blow.
(b) Great bodily harm. “Great bodily harm” means serious injury; it does not include minor injuries such as a black eye or a bloody nose, but it does include fractured or dislocated bones, deep cuts, torn members of the body, serious damage to internal organs, and other serious bodily injuries. It is synonymous with the term “grievous bodily harm.”
(c) Intoxication. Voluntary intoxication not amounting to legal insanity does not reduce un-premeditated murder to manslaughter (Article 119) or any other lesser offense.

(4) Act inherently dangerous to others.
(a) Wanton disregard of human life. Intentionally engaging in an act inherently dangerous to another—although without an intent to cause the death of or great bodily harm to any particular person, or even with a wish that death will not be caused—may also constitute murder if the act shows wanton disregard of human life. Such disregard is characterized by heedlessness of the probable consequences of the act or omission, or indifference to the likelihood of death or great bodily harm. Examples include throwing a live grenade toward another in jest or flying an aircraft very low over one or more persons to cause alarm.
(b) Knowledge. The accused must know that death or great bodily harm was a probable consequence of the inherently dangerous act. Such knowledge may be proved by circumstantial evidence.

(5) During certain offenses.
(a) In general. The commission or attempted commission of any of the offenses listed in Article 118(4) is likely to result in homicide, and when an unlawful killing occurs as a consequence of the perpetration or attempted perpetration of one of these offenses, the killing is murder. Under these circumstances it is not a defense that the killing was unintended or accidental.
(b) Separate offenses. The perpetration or attempted perpetration of the burglary, sodomy, rape, robbery, or aggravated arson may be charged separately from the homicide.

(1) Premeditated murder and murder during certain offenses. Article 118(2) and (3)—murder

As I have made the rounds of internet news sites to monitor political events, I have found that political pundits from both sides of the aisle are referring to themselves as patriots. More and more frequently each side accuses the other side of not being patriotic. Yet, it is appearing more as if the accusations from the left are made to mask their true agenda and lack of patriotism when they try shout down and marginalize the grassroots opposition to the agenda that is pushed by Mr. Obama and other misguided progressives.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi questions the opposition’s patriotism and is on record of labeling the "Tea Party" protesters as Nazis. This appears to be calculated to infer that of millions of hard working Americans are not patriots at all, but hateful bigots and thugs who are being selfish for their insistence in not wanting to pay their ‘fair share’ via increased taxes to pay for increased, big nanny, governmental control over yet more of their lives. The Axis of Extremists believe it is their 'patriotic' duty to finance their agenda by sucking more off the fruits of the working American's labor, so that the have-nots (lazy, entitlement addicted, malcontents) can live comfortably sucking off the government teet with little, or no effort on their part. This is patriotism as our Democratic leadership defines patriotism.

It has become voguish for the left to accuse the opposition of not being patriotic for resisting the kind of ‘change’ that Mr. Obama has promised for America. The kind of ’change’ that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the rest of the dominating leftists on Capitol Hill are intent on ramming down the throats of Americans who object to the liberal (socialist) agenda.

One has only to read any comment section that may follow many online political commentary, or news article that is critical of what the Capitol Hill Gang and Mr. Obama, all of who I call the ’Axis of Extremists’, are endeavoring to accomplish. We see a push for the socialization of the American economy and way of life at the expense of those who simply want to work, live their lives, and to be left alone by an ever expansive, intrusive and burdensome federal government; the same government that portends to help all the people through their beneficence, paid for on the back of the hard working taxpayer.

When concerned Americans voice opposition to the progressive’s agenda, the overseers of the Axis of Extremists; Mr. Obama, Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid disparage those hard working Americans who simply want to preserve the greatness of America and the American way of life. The Axis of Extremists and their supporters repeat, ad nauseum that they are doing their patriotic duty for the people, whether or not the people want the change they promote and support. The Axis of Extremists presume that they themselves know better than the American people. Those who question, or protest the Axis of Extremists are seen as agents provocateurs and are labeled as being anything, but patriots.

The Encarta World English Dictionary defines a patriot as a proud supporter or defender of his or her country and its way of life. This simple definition would perfectly describe those who voice opposition to the Axis of Extremists and the agenda to socialize America. So, if one embraces, respects and believes in the preservation of the American way of life, the beliefs that patriot’s all over America cherish and embrace, then is stands to reason that those who want to fundamentally change the way America functions and operates are the farthest thing from being patriots.

If one's goal is to tear down and replace that which our Founding Fathers left us in a constitutional republic by way of our Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution, then one must most sincerely question the patriotism, or lack thereof, from those who feel compelled to redefine this country into something that no longer will resemble that which our Founding Fathers left to us.

The Axis of Extremists have become very skilled over the years at hijacking and redefining words for their own use. When the Axis of Extremists attempt to mask the fetid stench of that which they believe and embrace, ultimately to be foisted upon the working people who are unwilling, the Axis of Extremists will hide behind powerful and flowery sounding rhetoric and terms designed try to make the stench of that which they peddle smell much sweeter. William Shakespeare wrote; A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. William Shakespeare was saying; What matters is what something is, not what it is called. We know that socialism is not patriotism. The Axis of Extremists needs us to believe that socialism renamed patriotism is what we must have for our country. They think it is their 'patriotic' duty to drive this nation quickly down that path.

The Axis of Extremists on Capitol Hill insist that they are the true patriots, when in fact they have nothing in common with patriots. It does not matter what Obama, Pelosi, Reid and their supporters call themselves when they erroneously call themselves patriots. They spin it all into one giant lie. The Axis of Extremists in their deeds and actions while ‘serving’ we the people betray themselves as not being patriots, but as being the antithesis of what a Patriot is; traitors.

A traitor is defined as a person who is disloyal. In the case of Mr. Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid along their legions of blind, Kool-Aid drinking supporters, they would destroy this nation and all that it stands for, because their actions and beliefs are traitorous. Other terms that may be used to describe these traitorous malcontents are: Benedict Arnold, Judas, back-stabber, betrayer, conspirator, deceiver, defector, deserter, double-crosser, fink, hypocrite, snitch, and treasonist. I could go on, but space is limited. You get my point.

Next time you hear the Axis of Extremists questioning the patriotism of those who oppose their anti-American agenda, think of what the Axis of Extremists are really trying to do. They are trying to confuse and mislead us by questioning the patriotism of hard working Americans as they attempt to sweeten the smell of their own motives and agenda by hijacking and redefining patriotism to fit themselves and their agenda. Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's minister of propaganda would be proud that his tactics are so effectively used by the Axis of Extremists. Goebbles believed that if a lie was repeated enough, it would be seen as truth by the people. The Axis of Extremists believes this too. Still, we the real patriots, see right through it all.

Obama; A Disingenuous Media Whore

After Thursday’s massacre at Fort Hood by a Muslim officer, Mr. Obama, upon the conclusion of his White House Tribal Nations Conference, addressed the media. For over two minutes, Mr. Obama spoke of his accomplishments and agenda of the day before he mentioned the fallen at the hands of a Muslim terrorist at Fort Hood. The fact that Mr. Obama failed to immediately address the media about the Fort Hood tragedy gave evidence that Mr. Obama’s agenda and that of Native Americans (votes) took precedence over our Heroes in uniform.

Today, Mr. Obama addressed the media of the Fort Hood massacre. When Mr. Obama completed his comments, he immediately segued to patting himself on the back for his accomplishment of the day of signing new legislation to extend unemployment benefits (votes).

Two days in a row, Mr. Obama used the tragedy of Fort Hood as an excuse to get in front of the cameras to push his agenda (votes). Mr. Obama could have shown a touch of class by addressing the Fort Hood Massacre to a concerned nation without going into his usual community organizing and campaign mode while he had the attention of the media.

Mr. Obama’s actions were not presidential, nor respectful of the fallen of Fort Hood. This makes Mr. Obama our Media Whore of the week.
　

Mr. Obama Attends Democratic Fundraiser On The Taxpayer's Dime

Mr. Obama was in San Francisco Thursday for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser. Mr. Obama arrived at San Francisco International Airport on Air Force One . He will depart Friday morning, according to the White House.

The fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee and Organizing for America took place at the Westin St. Francis. The fundraiser was expected to raise more than $2 million. Tickets to the event ranged from $500 to $1,000.

Americans are pretty tolerant of expenditures by any President to travel like a world leader — but why is there such little talk about Mr. Obama attending fundraisers for the DNC, and who is paying for this trip?

After being critical of CEO’s for their private jets, their taxpayer paid perks and the posh business conventions, and then saying "the party is over" — Mr. Obama flew to San Francisco to raise money for his political party. Who's paying for the trip?

Air Force One costs the taxpayer $60.000 per hour to operate. Additionally, Mr. Obama's domestic travel also involves the use of an accompanying cargo plane to carry his motorcade. Then, there's the Secret Service protection, local police protection, and the inconvenience caused to the people of San Francisco as the commute hour traffic was tied up when Mr. Obama made his way from the San Francisco International Airport to the St. Fancis Hotel.

I'd like to note that I don't care if it is an RNC, or DNC fundraiser. G.W. Bush had his critics when he attended fundraisers on the taxpayer's dime. I don't care if it is a Republican or Democrat president. Mr. Obama's participation in Thursday's political fundraiser to benefit the DNC political machine cost the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of dollars. The taxpayer should not be paying to benefit either political party to raise funds. Furthermore, the DNC should be required to pay for expenses incurred by the President for partisan political events. Any president.

It is wrong to use any taxpayer funds to advance the cause of either political party and the taxpaying public should not put up with it. It's time that this kind of partisan political fundraising be stopped when the taxpayer must foot the bill. The DNC should be required to reimburse the taxpayer. Congress must pass legislation outlawing this kind of activity and the President needs to sign such a bill.

Clarification: Craig Deboer this morning on KTVU 2 News reported that Mr. Obama's staff was in the process of looking for a venue for Mr. Obama to speak befor departing San Francisco in order to justify the expense of flying Mr. Obama to the DNC fundraiser. Apparently Mr. Obama or any president can attend another political function that is not a fundraiser, providing it is for the business of the people. Then, the trip can be paid by the taxpayer. Otherwise the DNC would be required to pay for Mr. Obama's trip to San Francisco. So, any president, Republican or Democrat, can attend a partisan political fundraiser, then when departing make a statement on the way to the airport, and that would be considered the business of the people and the trip will then be paid for by the taxpayer. This is wrong on so many levels.

Obama to travel to Oslo to accept Nobel Peace Prize

Robert Gibbs announced in a briefing that President Obama would go to Oslo, Norway to personally accept his Nobel Peace Prize.

The question is; Will Mr. Obama travel to Oslo on the taxpayer’s dime to accept a check for his own personal gain? Will Michelle fly a day or two ahead to tour and shop in Oslo on the taxpayer’s dime?

God forbid G.W. Bush would be jet setting to Oslo to accept an award. Then again, that would never happen, a Republican gaining such recognition. Reagan is very deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize for his policies that brought down the Soviet Union, but his accomplishments are ignored. I digress.

Obama was in office just 10 days when the Nobel nomination deadline arrived. Who would have imagined such leadership and greatness in such a short span of time?

Still, one would think that Obama would pay for his own travel expenses to Oslo to accept his cash reward. After all, the trip will be for Mr. Obama’s own personal gain and enrichment.

The best thing Mr. Obama could do is to send a representative to Oslo to bag his prize. It would be easier on the taxpayer's pocketbook. Better yet, Mr. Obama could show a touch of class and just turn the honor down. The fact of the matter is, there are more deserving and more accomplished people who should be given the Nobel Peace Prize.

History will record that Mr. Obama was just a community organizer from Chicago who lacked the experience to lead the free world. History will note that Mr. Obama merely presided over a mediocre presidency that was on par or less than that of Jimmy Carter’s term in office. Ultimately, it will be shown that Mr. Obama will never have been deserving of such an honor.

If anything, Mr. Obama should have been nominated for an Oscar, not a Nobel Peace Prize for his performance as one who unapologetically loves his country, its principles and its Constitution. That performance has been more believable to the leftard lemmings that fawn over Mr. Obama, than has been the performance of acting as a great political leader and peacemaker. Then again, I may be wrong. It is those leftist lemmings who think Mr. Obama is deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize, even if he has accomplished nothing to get the prize.

When Mr. Obama wraps up his campaign and photo op stop in Oslo, perhaps he can return to the United States to engage in the work of the American People. He might consider endorsing his Nobel Peace Prize check over to the U.S. Treasury to reimburse the American people for his travel expenses, meals, lodging and Secret Service protection.

Why Al Qaeda Hasn't Attacked D.C.

God forbid that we ever suffer another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Perhaps such an attack is in progress and underway. Yet, many fail to recognize the current attack. This attack is bloodless and lacks the telltale explosions, smoke and body count. Still, the question is, why hasn't Al Qaeda hit Washington D.C.?

The answer can be very simple. Why would Al Qaeda want to thwart the destruction of the United States from those bent on doing so from within? Why would Al Qaeda prevent our own homegrown terrorists from executing their agenda against the people of the United States and the U.S. Constitution? Obviously, Al Qaeda knows that through patience and over time their goal of the destruction of the United States will be accomplished by elements inside the current administration and from the majority that has control of Congress. Al Qaeda's task of bringing the United States to her knees and our ultimate destruction is being done in a rapid fashion and most efficiently without Al Qaeda having to lift a finger. Al Qaeda will simply sit this one out and let our own homegrown terrorists do the job for them.

Islam Advertises On Conservative Talk Radio Now?

I just learned today that WhyIslam.Org has been conducting an advertising campaign on conservative talk radio. This afternoon I jumped into my truck and the radio came on as I turned the key. The dial was tuned to the news on my regular AM talk station. Then, an ad came on for WhyIslam.com. It was a bit disconcerting to hear an ad promoting Islam on of all places, conservative talk radio. Isn't that just a bit odd? It is kind of like NPR carrying an advertisement promoting A Michael Savage or Ann Coulter book. Just imagine the frothing at the mouth and wails of protest from the left if that were to happen.

WhyIslam.org has been conducting a two-week radio ad campaign on two radio stations that I listen to. They are KFBK 1530AM, and KSTE 650AM. Both broadcast out of Sacramento, about 80 miles from where I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. You can only guess at the serious lack of conservative talk stations in the SF Bay Area market. Aside from KSFO 560AM, there is not a whole lot to choose from. I digress.

WhyIslam.Org began its ad campaign on August 18. The campaign was to last for two weeks. I can only hope the campaign is over and will not start up again. As one who listens to conservative (KSTE AM 650) talk radio, I found this to be quite offensive in light that the anniversary of 9/11 is coming up and of the CAIR attacks upon Michael Savage.

Is this some prelude to Obama's FCC enforcing some kind of fairness for advertising only on conservative talk or Christian radio? Are the adherents of Islam testing the waters to see who they can impose their advertisements on with a little Obama administration and Dem dominated Congress muscle backing them? One can only guess.

I find it interesting that Clear Channel Communications, Inc. the owner of KSTE and KFBK sold the ad time on the two talk radio stations that carry one or more of the following talk show hosts: Clark Howard, Dr. Laura, The Savage Nation, Armstrong & Getty, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. Talk about a slap in the face to their listeners!

A suggestion to WhyIslam.Org; Take it to the Air America Radio Network where they are very desperate for the advertising revenue. Besides, Air America's Kool Aid drunken audience (All 9 listeners, nationwide) is far less discriminating in what and whom they listen too. Maybe WhyIslam.Org would find a more receptive audience at Air America, and they would get more bang for their buck, too.

Radio show host Glen Meakem on his website asks: If the healthcare overhaul legislation currently being considered in Congress will provide increased care and lower costs for everyone, then why have members of both the U.S. House and Senate exempted themselves from any resulting public option?

Representative John Fleming (R-LA) responded to this question by sponsoring H. Res. 615, a resolution that encourages “members of Congress who vote to create a government-run health insurance agency to give up their own comprehensive health insurance plans to join the new the public option they advocate for others.”

Friday’s Miami Herald carries a story that a panel reviewing NASA's current plans for human space flight reports that there is no realistic way to return to the moon by 2020 -- or even 2028. This is the conclusion by The Human Space Flight Plans Committee, appointed by President Barack Obama. The committee has searched for a way to put together a realistic plan for America’s goal to place men back on the moon. Under current budgeting for NASA, former President Bush’s proposed goal of returning men the moon by 2020 is seen as unrealistic and may not be possible until well after 2030. NASA’s annual budget is 9 billion a year. The panel reports that meeting the goal of a renewed presence on the moon will not be possible unless a $50 billion gap in NASA’s budget can be resolved.

President Obama ran for election with promises of stimulating the economy to build jobs in the United States with the hopes of pulling this nation out of its current financial crisis. Not investing more money in NASA and its efforts to place men on the moon and beyond will not allow the type of innovation and development that could really stimulate the economy to take root. The scientific breakthroughs and technology that could be spawned by a renewed push into space exploration could mean more stimulation for the economy as new consumer goods derived from technological innovation for the space program begin to enter the marketplace.

Our government is spending hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer’s money to bailout banks and the auto industry for their mismanagement and failures. Acorn, a favorite “non-profit” organization of President Obama’s will receive over 8.5 billion in tax payer’s dollars this year; an amount which is just shy of NASA’s annual budget.

With all the money Capitol Hill and the President are throwing around in corporate welfare and in paying back political favors, or in just ensuring more bought votes in exchange for a few “free” taxpayer dollars, the vision has been lost for truthfully stimulating the economy. The money the President and our representatives are so freely spending belongs to the taxpayer. So, why not throw a little money NASA’s way, which in turn would stimulate the economy and do us all some good?

If our government was to fund NASA with a budget adequate enough to quickly establish a full-time presence on the moon and for missions beyond; imagine what the potential could be for new innovations that could be developed while supporting a more robust space program? Imagine the positive economic effects as new innovations cross over to the private sector? There would be a substantial infusion of new jobs, manufacturing and new industries created for the next generation to take advantage of. Why wouldn’t Washington want to increase funding for NASA?

Past experience has shown that investment in a robust space program brings new industry and economic growth. Of course, the reality is that our lawmakers and our president are determined to shower special interests and community organizing groups with stimulus funds to secure their own political future over the future of, and the economic well being of the American taxpayer, who’s on the hook for all of Washington’s pet projects and boondoggles.

It’s becoming quite apparent that President Obama and Capitol Hill have no interest in stimulating the economy to benefit the American people when refusing to invest in true science and exploration by investing in NASA. Perhaps President Obama and Capitol Hill fear that investing in NASA and the building of a robust space program would cause trickle-down economics, an economic concept that truly works. The only economy our politicians are interested in is more of a trickle-up poverty kind of economy. Perhaps our political leaders are only motivated to benefit their own power base and personal economies by filling their own bank accounts and those of their cronies and special interest groups with stolen taxpayer funds. Meanwhile, they see a poor and inpoverished underclass as a citizenry dependent on the federal government, which ensures their grip on power.

Perhaps it is time we demand that our tax money be used to invest on our future as a nation, rather than the future of the elites in Washington D.C.. As a nation, we need to demand that NASA gets stimulated with some generous funding as a means to further fix our economy.
　

Dinner With Obama, A Parable

Once upon a time, I was invited to the White House for a private dinner with the President. I am a respected businessman, with a factory that produces memory chips for computers and portable electronics. There was some talk that my industry was being scrutinized by the administration, but I paid it no mind. I had worked hard all my life to build it… I live in a free country.. There’s nothing that the government can do to me if I’ve broken no laws. My wealth was earned honestly, and an invitation to dinner with an American President is an honor.

I checked my coat, was greeted by the Chief of Staff, and joined the President in a dining room. We sat across from each other at a table draped in white linen. The Great Seal was embossed on the china. Uniformed staff served our dinner.

The meal was served, and I was startled when my waiter suddenly reached out, plucked a dinner roll off my plate, and began nibbling it as he walked back to the kitchen.

“Sorry about that,” said the President. “Andrew is very hungry.”

“I don’t appreciate…” I began, but as I looked into the calm eyes across from me, I felt immediately guilty and petty. It was just a dinner roll. “Of course,” I concluded, and reached for my glass. Before I could, however, another waiter reached forward, took the glass away and swallowed the wine in a single gulp.

“And his brother Eric is very thirsty.” said the President.

I didn’t say anything. The President is testing my compassion, I thought. I will play along.

I don’t want to seem unkind. My plate was whisked away before I had tasted a bite.

“Eric’s children are also quite hungry.”

Suddenly, I crashed to the floor. My chair had been pulled out from under me. I stood, brushing myself off angrily, and watched as it was carried from the room.

“And their grandmother can’t stand for long.”

I excused myself, smiling outwardly, but inside feeling like a fool. Obviously I had been invited to the White House to be sport for some game. I reached for my coat, to find that it had been taken. I turned back to the President.

“Their grandfather doesn’t like the cold.”

I wanted to shout- that was my coat! But again, I looked at the cool placid smiling face of my host and decided I was being a poor sport. I spread my hands helplessly and chuckled. Then I felt my hip pocket and realized my wallet was gone.
I contained myself and went to a phone on an elegant side table to ask my wife to come get me.

I learned shortly my wife had been thrown out of our home, my credit cards had been maxed out, my bank accounts emptied, and my retirement and equity portfolios had vanished.

Apparently, the waiters and their families were moving in. The President hadn’t moved or spoken as I learned all this, but finally I lowered the phone into its cradle and turned to face him.

He quietly said, “Andrew’s whole family has made bad financial decisions. They have not planned for retirement, and they need a house. They recently defaulted on a sub-prime mortgage. I told them they could have your home. They need it more than you do.”

My hands were shaking. I felt faint. I stumbled back to the table and knelt on the floor. The President cheerfully cut his meat, ate his steak and drank his wine. I stared at the small gray circles on the tablecloth… water drops were all that was left.

“By the way,” He added, “I have just signed an Executive Order nationalizing your factories. I’m firing you as head of your business. I’ll be operating the firm now for the benefit of all mankind. There’s a whole bunch of Erics and Andrews out there and they can’t come to you for jobs groveling like beggars.”

I looked up. The President dropped his spoon into the empty ramekin which had been his Crème Brulee. He drained the last drops of his wine. As the table was cleared, he lit a cigarette and leaned back in his chair. He stared at me. I clung to the edge of the table as if it were a ledge and I were a man hanging over an abyss. I thought of the years behind me, of the life I had lived. The life I had earned with a lifetime of work, risk and struggle.

Why was I punished?

How had I allowed it to be taken?

What game had I played and lost?

What had I done wrong?

As if answering my unspoken thought, the President suddenly cocked his head, locked his cool, empty, eyes to mine, and bared a million teeth, chuckling wryly as he folded his hands.

“You should have stopped me at the dinner roll,” he said.

A Tail Of A Tired Old Dog

This is one of the best emails I have gotten in a while!

An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of.

He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour.

This continued off and on for several weeks. Curious I pinned a note to his collar: 'I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.'

The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar: 'He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 - he's trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?'

Bias Exposed -digg in bed with Huffington Post

You know how they say that you can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep? Well, you can also tell a lot about a person by the blogs they read. Let's take it one step further. You can tell a lot about a social news website by the blogs they cozy up with. Case in point, the digg interview of Sir Richard Branson, which was conducted by Arianna Huffington; -co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post.

The Huffington Post is glaringly left leaning in the content that it publishes. The Huffington Post makes no bones about it. The Huffington Post is un-apologetic in its purpose and agenda. The Huffington Post is more tabloid and less journalism. The case can easily be made that the Huffington Post is void of any journalistic integrity, while it can be said that the Huffington Post is intellectually bankrupt. Then again, I am a conservative and I call it as I see it.

When I saw the interview by Arianna Huffington with Sir Richard Branson on behalf of digg, the first thing that came into my mind was that there must be quite the cozy relationship between the two. The Huffington Post, the purveyor of inaccuracies, leftist hit pieces and kool-aid journalism. And, then there’s digg, the social news site that claims to have an ingenious algorithm designed to evenhandedly administer submitted stories without bias. The problem is, Stories submitted in awe of some leftist ideal often make the digg front page with as few as sixty diggs, while stories submitted by conservatives can collect hundreds of diggs in just a few hours and never see the front page. Either the digg algorithm is broken, or the biased digg staff IS the algorithm!

digg is rife with leftist members who gang-bang conservatives and their submissions through the process of burying and hurled insults. Meanwhile, the digg staff turns a blind eye to the very acts of ‘Terms of Service’ violations by the leftist members that often results in the banning of the conservative members when they’re reported for TOS violations.

Put the Huffington Post and digg in bed together, and what you end up with a social news site that professes fairness and open-mindedness towards all viewpoints but, in reality you end up with an agenda driven war against conservatives, where insults and flaming are the weapons of ‘debate’ used by the leftists. The Huffington Post is the source of any ‘reputable’ ammunition that is religiously used by the leftists on digg, while any other source quoted by a conservative is dismissed as not having any journalistic value whatsoever. How backwards and hypocritical is that?

I’m going to issue a challenge to digg. A challenge that serves to either expose digg for the left leaning, agenda driven, social news site that digg really is. DIVORCE AGREEMENT

We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.

We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

With the latest talks of the Fairness Doctrine circulating in the media and the blosphere, it is no wonder why many outspoken conservatives are bracing themselves for an all out freedom of speech war. Back in 2006, digg.com was just another fledgling news sharing/bookmarking site. Personally I can’t say exactly what the site was like back in 06’, but I can provide the testimony of a man who has been using it since its inception. For this story he will be referred to as 007.

Like many eager Internet commentators, 007 found that commenting on various news sites was quite gratifying. The ability to express ones ideas in an open forum, especially when said ideas deviate from the norm, could be somewhat cathartic. 007 began commenting and using digg.com in mid 2006. He says that the site had an overwhelming liberal slant, but he enjoyed commenting in the unwelcome environment because there just weren’t any dissenting opinions, it was an echo-chamber. Now having a knack for political incorrectness, 007 found himself leaving comments that obviously angered the natives.. In his own words,

“I am quite sure that I was the first “in your face” conservative that they had encountered. The first time I got banned I was really surprised because all I did was make a joke about an exploding Palestinian kid. I remember on more than one occasion, getting 500+ profile views in one day (and my account would always be gone the next day), so you know that there are groups on Digg who “police” the comments and they have the ability to go in and bury people very quickly.”

So it was obvious to 007 that digg.com was definitely not a freedom of speech arena, it was a business, run and operated with people who had a certain agenda. Political correctness, when it fit their ideology, and censorship when it did not. 007 decided to keep on keeping on, and began to sign up repeatedly.

“Even though they did ban accounts back then, it wasn’t like it is today. Back then I could keep an account for a week or two….these days it’s one or two accounts per day. I’ve probably been through 400-500 Digg IDs.
If you read the TOS you’ll see that it’s entirely subjective. If they don’t want you on Digg they can just say that some people found you offensive”….which can mean anything. Since I usually try to be as offensive as possible, it doesn’t bother me that I get banned. There is and there always has been a huge double-standard on digg.”

007’s reasons for the in your face crusade:

I want people to read my posts
I want people who are just following the crowd, and not listening to their inner voice, to get our of their comfort zone

I want to force liberals to really think about what they believe

(Taking a cue from Coulter, intentionally adding stoke to the fire to incite critical thinking, not a bad idea)

So there you have it, someone who has been on the site since its inception, been the victim of the subjective TOS, and fought back. His comments were straightforward, hysterical, on-point as far as conservative snarky discourse goes, and above ALL else they were politically incorrect. Political correctness, that nagging angel sitting atop ones shoulder, saying ‘Well now if you say that you might offend someone, you might offend the Siberian huskie mix Americans, or the people against the defamation of butterflies and unicorns’ (you catch my drift, it is all encompassing, and it squelches our ideas about issues, and our ability to get past some of the most difficult issues (ie:racism)). If people could just say what they wanted to say, not what other people think they should say, nor what the institution of liberalism thinks they should say, then maybe just maybe, people wouldn’t be so friggen meat-headed when it came to formulating their OWN ideas.

So my and 007’s ideas may not be popular on some news sites, they may not be popular in Applebee’s for f’s sake, but damn it they’re ours, and this country NEEDS dissenting opinions. Here’s the crux of the freedom of speech argument, there is no free press in this country, there are just businesses owned and operated by corporations. Digg.com, blogspot, the list goes on. These sites are funded by people with a clear agenda- stop the spread of politically incorrect speech at all costs, pander to the left and its anti-American agenda, and bring about speech that conforms to the new liberal oligarchy. People are getting kicked off of blogspot for the same reasons they are getting kicked off of digg, systematic interjection of the thought police. So this is what I want to say to all the freedom loving, politically incorrect, George Carlin-esque, Cheech and Chong fans out there-

‘We will not go gentle in that good night, we will rage against the dying of the light.’ If the powers that be, big fat bureaucrats in Washington, George Soros, the corporations like GE with a clear agenda, are going to push dissenting opinions out of their owned and operated outlets, well then we’re just going to have to fight back. So to digg.com, blogspot, any other outlet or liberal think tank that thinks freedom of speech applies only to those who kneel at the shrine of Obama- I don’t give a damn about your agenda or your feelings, this is the United States of America- Land of the Free, Home of the Brave. Men have died in order to protect my country’s freedoms, and I’ll be damned if anyone tries to turn this country into a muddied down version of Sweden. I will be damned. So fight my fellow Americans, fight to be heard.

Nationalized Health Care As Found Buried In The 'Stimulus' Package

The following three scenarios represent how a national health care plan may be administered by federal bureaucrats.

Scenario #1)

Dr.: Mrs. Johnson, you have breast cancer. It's spread to the lymph nodes. Because you are at an advanced age of 80 years old, just four months past the maximum life expectancy in the United States, Federal guidelines state that the cost of treatment outweighs the benefits of treatment.

Mrs. Johnson: But doctor, breast cancer along with the affected lymph nodes is very treatable and has a high survival rate. There's nothing that can be done?

Dr.: You can appeal, Mrs. Johnson. However, a decision may take months and we cannot treat you pending a decision.

Mrs. Johnson: Let's not wait on the government. I can pay out of pocket for my own treatment.

Dr.: Mrs. Johnson, federal law prohibits that we provide you treatment, even if you can afford to pay out of pocket. It wouldn't be fair to those who cannot afford to pay for their own health care. I'd advise you to go home to put your affairs in order. Spend quality time with you kids, grandkids and great grandkids. If you are in pain, we can give you the medications to make you more comfortable. Of course, if you elect to do so, euthanasia is available as a free service.

Dr.: Mr. Holmes, I'm affraid your HIV and associated health issues requires expensive drug therapy. In light of your age of 74, federal guidlines prohibit treatment as being too expensive. Even if you could pay out of pocket, the law does not allow for treatment at this time.

Mr. Holmes: This is an outrage! As a gay man, I will sue you for discrimination!

Dr.: You're gay? That's different! There are a whole myriad of treatment options for minorities. We can add years to your life!

The Death Of Common Sense

An Obituary printed in the London Times

We are mourning the loss of a beloved old friend who recently passed away.

His name was Common Sense. Common Sense lived a long life but died in the United States from a vicious contagious disease.

He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools, hospitals, homes and factories, helping folks get the jobs done without fanfare and foolishness. For decades, petty rules, frivolous lawsuits, and ludicrous verdicts held no power over Common Sense.

He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to come in from the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, and that life isn't always fair. Common Sense lived by a simple and sound financial policy. Don't spend more than you earn. Common Sense also lived by other time-tested strategies like: The adults are in charge and not the kids, and it's okay to come in second or third.

A veteran of the Great Depression and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends such as body piercing, 'whole language' and 'new math'.

But his health declined when he became infected with the I'm not responsible for my own actions and It's alright if it feels good viruses. He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero-tolerance policies. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.

It declined further when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student, but could not inform the parents and get their permission when their children were given mind-altering drugs or birth control pills; and when universities turned into cesspools of debauchery and socialist propaganda.

Common Sense lost his will to live when criminals received better treatment than their victims, the Ten Commandments became contraband, and priests molested young boys. When a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee is hot, and was awarded a huge settlement; and when the president sold security related technology to a hostile nation, Common Sense fell into a coma.

As the end neared, Common Sense drifted in and out of consciousness, but was kept informed of new questionable regulations, such as thought control and partial birth abortion. Finally, when another president, claiming to staunchly protect the country from terrorist atrocities, yet allowing the same villains to invade the country through borders that are strangely very penetrable; being fully aware of what the grave consequences of such deliberate and ominous neglect can be, Common Sense died of sudden cardiac arrest.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Love; his daughter, Responsibility; and his sons, Diligence and Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers, Deception, Greed and Ignorance. Not many attended his funeral, because so few noticed he was gone.

Palestinian Protesters Attack Children At Christian Rock Concert

On Sunday, January 11, 2008 a portion of my daughter's youth group from church attended a Christian concert festival called "Winter Jam" at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was expected to be a great time and it was once they entered the building. Unfortunately the group of ten to twelve year old children paid for their moment of fellowship and worship with every step they took towards the entrance.

When the youth group tried to enter the event, they were surrounded by a group of "Palestinian" protesters against Israel. The protesters surrounded the American children, screamed profanity and called them horrible names such as "baby murderers," while waving signs of what was portrayed as "mangled" children from "Palestine." In order to enter, the children had to be surrounding by adult chaperons and pushed through.

After being told what happened by both my daughter and her youth director on Sunday night, I contacted the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department in North Carolina on Monday, January 12, 2008, requested to file a complaint and asked for an explanation as to why this was allowed by the city.

Instead of the police department honoring my request, I was left on the phone and bounced from one employee to another. I eventually landed on the phone with a police representative who called himself "Dante" and refused to give a last name. In lieu of filing a report, "Dante" talked to me like a two year old and declared that the protesters where "well within their rights" and that it was "their freedom" to do these things. I was eventually bounced on to another person by "Dante" before my telephone finally went dead.

After more calls, I did eventually make contact with one professional individual at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department who was willing to put their personal political agenda aside and do their job. I was allowed to file a "narrative report" by this individual but even then I was specifically told that my complaint would "not be investigated."

Let's get this straight. The "Palestinian" protesters were "well within their rights" to detain, deter, harass, threaten and block a child's access to a peaceful act of worship in their religion? I imagine my complaint would have been addressed quite differently if the situation was reverse and it were Islamic children who were effected.

It is true that the children of "Palestine" are victims but it is not because of other countries like Israel and America that tries to protect its own children and their right to exist. It is also not because of other religions who don't agree with Islamic beliefs. It is because the very adults who are supposed to protect these children insist on making them targets in lieu of a treasure. These children are tragically forced into a dark world where their "innocent" caretakers allow their schools to be used as launching grounds for terrorist rocket attacks and use Mickey Mouse-like characters to tell them at an early age how to kill Jews.

It is not the policy of Christianity or Judaism to indoctrinate or involve their children in hate-filled political doctrine and attacks. However those rallying the "Palestinian" battle-cry appear determined to reduce our children to political pawns as well. As the mainstream media gushes forth with prideful reports regarding the "peaceful" protests on behalf of "Palestinians" and police departments turn their heads, it appears that they are succeeding in their mission. This Wednesday night, I will be forced to explain the heartless political antics of the protest group to my own group of saddened and confused kids.

Many people have faced hardships and sorrows in 2008, but it was the friends I have that kept me encouraged to get through the storms I faced. I believe that without a doubt, there will have to be a lot of that love going around in 2009. I remember that day, and always will, as it seemed like just yesterday, but it was in late April, 2007 when I first noticed it. It did not take me long to develop a network of my loved friends once I started submitting WND articles to digg.com.

And it has been a wild ride since then. I then became aquainted with the blogs. At first, I put a lot of time on blognetdaily, a WND forum. Writing about articles and the issues of the day was always fun, and just as enlightening when reading other's comments, or posts. And then came digg.com. Now, I'm not sure if Joseph Farah, founder of WND, would agree that digg has been a good thing. For all the positive things posted on digg.com regarding him and WND, there have also been a hefty and lefty share of WND-haters. The detractors. Uh, I just have to say this: "Can you digg it?"

You see, I love reading commentaries as much as I love writing them. If there has ever been a great advantage of having the Internet (thanks to Algore, of course /sarcasm), we have the ability to share our thoughts with each other. Once upon a time, it was when the printing press was invented that helped to shape civilization. And now, we have the ability to share our thoughts and concerns and epiphanies with each other at light speed. And now, it is a 24/7/365 Town Hall meeting. You gotta love it!

Thanks to my many friends at WND, I was introduced to this new way of communication. I don't know if there is any other way to show my great appreciation for what they do, other than to keep doing what I've been doing! And, right back at them, I hope that they also keep doing what they've been doing, too! And in a gushing way of saying it, THANK YOU, JOSEPH FARAH! You have chosen the greatest writers around to be apart of your crew. Everybody there at WND and Shop.WND deserve my greatest kudos!

The next day he drove up and said, 'Sorry son, but I have some badnews, the donkey died.' Chuck replied, 'Well, then, just give me my money back.' The farmer said, 'Can't do that. It's all about the Ice Cream ..... The most eye-opening civics lesson I ever had was while teaching third grade in 2000. The presidential election was heating up and some of the children showed an interest. I decided we would have an election for a class president. We would choose our nominees. They would make a campaign speech and the class would vote.

To simplify the process, candidates were nominated by other class members. We discussed what kinds of characteristics these students should have. We got many nominations and from those, Jamie and Olivia were picked to run for the top spot.

The class had done a great job in their selections. Both candidates were good kids. I thought Jamie might have an advantage because he got lots of parental support. I had never seen Olivia's mother. The day arrived when they were to make their speeches. Jamie went first. He had specific ideas about how to make our class a better place. He ended by promising to do his very best. Everyone applauded.

He sat down and Olivia came to the podium. Her speech was concise. She said, 'If you will vote for me, I will give you ice cream.' She sat down. The class went wild. 'Yes! Yes! We want ice cream.' She surely should have said more. She did not have to. A discussion followed. How did she plan to pay for the ice cream? She wasn't sure. Would her parents buy it or would the class pay for it? She didn't know. The class really didn't care. All they were thinking about was ice cream. Jamie was forgotten. Olivia won by a land slide.

Every time Barack Obama opens his mouth he offers ice cream, and fifty percent of America reacts like nine-year-olds. They want ice cream.

The other fifty percent know they're going to have to feed the cow.

An Open Letter To Nancy Pelosi

NOTE: This open letter is a works in progress. Like the U.S. Congress, we the people reserve the right to 'tweak' legislation to for OUR needs. In this case, to control the Congress and force the Congress back under the control of the American people.

Dear Ms. Pelosi, (And I use the term ‘dear’ very loosely) Since you have shown the American people, whom you work for, so little concern in the reckless spending of their money through an 800 billion bailout (It began at 700 billion; An additional 100 billion of pork was added) to boost confidence in our nation’s financial markets, may I offer some advice that may allow you to save face with your employer, the American tax payer? We the people want to see some common sense legislation coming out of Capitol Hill. The following is just a few ideas you may introduce into law on our behalf.

The American people depend on their 401K and IRA plans to fund their retirement. The market meltdown, caused by the employees of the American people, the elected representatives, has cost billions of dollars through legislative mismanagement and lack of oversight of the mortgage and banking industry. The American economy through policies designed to enrich the top few upon the backs of the working class is in a shambles. This is not the doing of the American people. This is the work of the Congress who has little oversight on them. The Congressional oversight committee, the American media, has abandoned this responsibility for partisan reasons.

We the people demand to see the following items included in a bill that will truly benefit the American people, not the politician elites and their cronies.We demand a tax deduction to be claimed by individuals who have 401K and IRA plans. This deduction will be equal to the amount lost since January 1st, 2008 for each 401K and IRA plan owned by each American. Politicians and their immediate families will be exempt from this deduction, since you got us into this mess. Said tax deductions will continue until the 401K and IRA plans regain in value to equal their pre 2008 value, which at that time, the deductions will cease.

We demand a tax deduction for those who have not claimed bankruptcy or who are not in foreclosure on their home. This deduction shall be equal to the dollar amount depreciated from their home over the last three years, using the following formula; Home value depreciation will be calculated from January 1st, 2006 to January 1st 2009. The homeowner will be allowed to claim as a loss, the loss in equity in their home for the said three year period.

I would like to bring to your attention Ms. Pelosi, because you appear to be so far out of touch with mainstream America, that there is a perception among the American people that the Congress of the United States is rampant with issues of conflict of interest. We are unable to understand why a multi-millionaire such as yourself, Ms. Pelosi, would desire to run and hold political office for $169,300 per year (2008 figure), unless there is something to be gained financially by holding office. We the people demand the following;

All politicians and their spouses must implement a blind trust for their holdings and assets. A blind trust is defined as; A trust in which the fiduciaries, namely the executors or those who have been given power of attorney, have full discretion over the assets, and the trust beneficiaries have no knowledge of the holdings of the trust and no right to intervene in their handling. Blind trusts are generally used when a settlor (sometimes called a trustor or donor) wishes to keep the beneficiary unaware of the specific assets in the trust, such as to avoid conflict of interest (See Barney Frank) between the beneficiary and the investments. Politicians or others in sensitive positions often place their personal assets (including investment income) into blind trusts, to avoid public scrutiny and accusations of conflicts of interest when they direct government funds to the private sector. Furthermore Ms. Pelosi; it will be mandated that the blind trust remain in effect for a period six years after a politician leaves office. Upon conviction of congressional member of a felony crime or for impeachment involving conflict of interest, said trust will be turned over to the U.S. Treasury. After a fair trial, unlike an IRS preceding, where an American taxpayer is considered guilty until he proves himself innocent, the trust may be returned or confiscated according to the outcome of said trail.

So that we the people of the United States have our faith in our representatives restored, so that we may once again believe that our representatives will work for the people and not their own benefit and profit, the Congressional pension plan must be terminated with all accrued funds in said pension plan to transferred immediately to an appropriate 401K or IRA plan, to be contained in the Congressman's blind trust. The congressional 401K or IRA plan must be equal to and not better than what is available to the ordinary American tax payer. In addition, the Congress will have social security tax withheld from their pay, to be disbursed upon retirement to said representative, to be administered under the same guidelines the American people are subject to. You may wish to fix the social security system, Ms. Pelosi, since this will contribute to yours and your colleague’s retirement.

All Congressional members must purchase their own medical health plans and all Congressional members must work within the framework of said plan. As it is mandated in California; an employer may not have better, but only equal medical insurance coverage to what he offers to his employee. And, so it shall be mandated for Congress. Congressional members may not have better medical coverage than any of their constituents. This keeps things fair for all.

Finally, we the people demand term limits to no more than two terms, just as the president is held to. This will break up the “good old boys club” on Capitol Hill and facilitate the return of Congress back to the American people.

Passage of a bill encompassing these demands is to be mandated on all of Congress with no loopholes. This will be a start in restoring the people’s trust in our representatives again.

We the people reserve the right to alter this legislation with a popular vote and anytime, whenever there is a general election. While ‘mob’ rule is not good for this country as a whole, in the case of controlling Congress, this one exception should be allowed.

This is the 34th time I'll speak to you from the Oval Office and the last. We've been together eight years now, and soon it'll be time for me to go. But before I do, I wanted to share some thoughts, some of which I've been saving for a long time.

It's been the honor of my life to be your president. So many of you have written the past few weeks to say thanks, but I could say as much to you. Nancy and I are grateful for the opportunity you gave us to serve.

One of the things about the presidency is that you're always somewhat apart. You spend a lot of time going by too fast in a car someone else is driving, and seeing the people through tinted glass--the parents holding up a child, and the wave you saw too late and couldn't return. And so many times I wanted to stop and reach out from behind the glass, and connect. Well, maybe I can do a little of that tonight.

People ask how I feel about leaving. And the fact is, "parting is such sweet sorrow." The sweet part is California, and the ranch and freedom. The sorrow--the goodbyes, of course, and leaving this beautiful place.

You know, down the hall and up the stairs from this office is the part of the White House where the president and his family live. There are a few favorite windows I have up there that I like to stand and look out of early in the morning. The view is over the grounds here to the Washington Monument, and then the Mall and the Jefferson Memorial. But on mornings when the humidity is low, you can see past the Jefferson to the river, the Potomac, and the Virginia shore. Someone said that's the view Lincoln had when he saw the smoke rising from the Battle of Bull Run. I see more prosaic things: the grass on the banks, the morning traffic as people make their way to work, now and then a sailboat on the river.

I've been thinking a bit at that window. I've been reflecting on what the past eight years have meant and mean. And the image that comes to mind like a refrain is a nautical one--a small story about a big ship, and a refugee and a sailor. It was back in the early '80s, at the height of the boat people. And the sailor was hard at work on the carrier Midway, which was patrolling the South China Sea. The sailor, like most American servicemen, was young, smart, and fiercely observant. The crew spied on the horizon a leaky little boat. And crammed inside were refugees from Indochina hoping to get to America. The Midway sent a small launch to bring them to the ship and safety. As the refugees made their way through the choppy seas, one spied the sailor on deck and stood up and called out to him. He yelled, "Hello, American sailor. Hello, freedom man."

A small moment with a big meaning, a moment the sailor, who wrote it in a letter, couldn't get out of his mind. And when I saw it, neither could I. Because that's what it was to be an American in the 1980s. We stood, again, for freedom. I know we always have, but in the past few years the world again, and in a way, we ourselves rediscovered it.

It's been quite a journey this decade, and we held together through some stormy seas. And at the end, together, we are reaching our destination.

The fact is, from Grenada to the Washington and Moscow summits, from the recession of '81 to '82, to the expansion that began in late '82 and continues to this day, we've made a difference. The way I see it, there were two great triumphs, two things that I'm proudest of. One is the economic recovery, in which the people of America created--and filled--19 million new jobs. The other is the recovery of our morale. America is respected again in the world and looked to for leadership.

Something that happened to me a few years ago reflects some of this. It was back in 1981, and I was attending my first big economic summit, which was held that year in Canada. The meeting place rotates among the member countries. The opening meeting was a formal dinner for the heads of government of the seven industrialized nations. Now, I sat there like the new kid in school and listened, and it was all Francois this and Helmut that. They dropped titles and spoke to one another on a first-name basis. Well, at one point I sort of leaned in and said, "My name's Ron." Well, in that same year, we began the actions we felt would ignite an economic comeback--cut taxes and regulation, started to cut spending. And soon the recovery began.

Two years later another economic summit, with pretty much the same cast. At the big opening meeting we all got together, and all of a sudden, just for a moment, I saw that everyone was just sitting there looking at me. And one of them broke the silence. "Tell us about the American miracle," he said.

Well, back in 1980, when I was running for president, it was all so different. Some pundits said our programs would result in catastrophe. Our views on foreign affairs would cause war. Our plans for the economy would cause inflation to soar and bring about economic collapse. I even remember one highly respected economist saying, back in 1982, that "the engines of economic growth have shut down here, and they're likely to stay that way for years to come." Well, he and the other opinion leaders were wrong. The fact is, what they called "radical" was really "right." What they called "dangerous" was just "desperately needed."

And in all of that time I won a nickname, "The Great Communicator." But I never thought it was my style or the words I used that made a difference: It was the content. I wasn't a great communicator, but I communicated great things, and they didn't spring full bloom from my brow, they came from the heart of a great nation--from our experience, our wisdom, and our belief in principles that have guided us for two centuries. They called it the Reagan revolution. Well, I'll accept that, but for me it always seemed more like the great rediscovery, a rediscovery of our values and our common sense.

Common sense told us that when you put a big tax on something, the people will produce less of it. So, we cut the people's tax rates, and the people produced more than ever before. The economy bloomed like a plant that had been cut back and could now grow quicker and stronger. Our economic program brought about the longest peacetime expansion in our history: real family income up, the poverty rate down, entrepreneurship booming, and an explosion in research and new technology. We're exporting more than ever because American industry became more competitive and at the same time, we summoned the national will to knock down protectionist walls abroad instead of erecting them at home. Common sense also told us that to preserve the peace, we'd have to become strong again after years of weakness and confusion. So, we rebuilt our defenses, and this New Year we toasted the new peacefulness around the globe. Not only have the superpowers actually begun to reduce their stockpiles of nuclear weapons--and hope for even more progress is bright--but the regional conflicts that rack the globe are also beginning to cease. The Persian Gulf is no longer a war zone. The Soviets are leaving Afghanistan. The Vietnamese are preparing to pull out of Cambodia, and an American-mediated accord will soon send 50,000 Cuban troops home from Angola.

The lesson of all this was, of course, that because we're a great nation, our challenges seem complex. It will always be this way. But as long as we remember our first principles and believe in ourselves, the future will always be ours. And something else we learned: Once you begin a great movement, there's no telling where it will end. We meant to change a nation, and instead, we changed a world.

Countries across the globe are turning to free markets and free speech and turning away from ideologies of the past. For them, the great rediscovery of the 1980s has been that, lo and behold, the moral way of government is the practical way of government: Democracy, the profoundly good, is also the profoundly productive.

When you've got to the point when you can celebrate the anniversaries of your 39th birthday, you can sit back sometimes, review your life, and see it flowing before you. For me there was a fork in the river, and it was right in the middle of my life. I never meant to go into politics. It wasn't my intention when I was young. But I was raised to believe you had to pay your way for the blessings bestowed on you. I was happy with my career in the entertainment world, but I ultimately went into politics because I wanted to protect something precious.

Ours was the first revolution in the history of mankind that truly reversed the course of government, and with three little words: "We the people." "We the people" tell the government what to do, it doesn't tell us. "We the people" are the driver, the government is the car. And we decide where it should go, and by what route, and how fast. Almost all the world's constitutions are documents in which governments tell the people what their privileges are. Our Constitution is a document in which "We the people" tell the government what it is allowed to do. "We the people" are free. This belief has been the underlying basis for everything I've tried to do these past eight years.

But back in the 1960s, when I began, it seemed to me that we'd begun reversing the order of things--that through more and more rules and regulations and confiscatory taxes, the government was taking more of our money, more of our options, and more of our freedom. I went into politics in part to put up my hand and say, "Stop." I was a citizen politician, and it seemed the right thing for a citizen to do.

I think we have stopped a lot of what needed stopping. And I hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There's a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts.

Nothing is less free than pure communism, and yet we have, the past few years, forged a satisfying new closeness with the Soviet Union. I've been asked if this isn't a gamble, and my answer is no because we're basing our actions not on words but deeds. The detente of the 1970s was based not on actions but promises. They'd promise to treat their own people and the people of the world better. But the gulag was still the gulag, and the state was still expansionist, and they still waged proxy wars in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Well, this time, so far, it's different. President Gorbachev has brought about some internal democratic reforms and begun the withdrawal from Afghanistan. He has also freed prisoners whose names I've given him every time we've met.

But life has a way of reminding you of big things through small incidents. Once, during the heady days of the Moscow summit, Nancy and I decided to break off from the entourage one afternoon to visit the shops on Arbat Street--that's a little street just off Moscow's main shopping area. Even though our visit was a surprise, every Russian there immediately recognized us and called out our names and reached for our hands. We were just about swept away by the warmth. You could almost feel the possibilities in all that joy. But within seconds, a KGB detail pushed their way toward us and began pushing and shoving the people in the crowd. It was an interesting moment. It reminded me that while the man on the street in the Soviet Union yearns for peace, the government is Communist. And those who run it are Communists, and that means we and they view such issues as freedom and human rights very differently.

We must keep up our guard, but we must also continue to work together to lessen and eliminate tension and mistrust. My view is that President Gorbachev is different from previous Soviet leaders. I think he knows some of the things wrong with his society and is trying to fix them. We wish him well. And we'll continue to work to make sure that the Soviet Union that eventually emerges from this process is a less threatening one. What it all boils down to is this. I want the new closeness to continue. And it will, as long as we make it clear that we will continue to act in a certain way as long as they continue to act in a helpful manner. If and when they don't, at first pull your punches. If they persist, pull the plug. It's still trust but verify. It's still play, but cut the cards. It's still watch closely. And don't be afraid to see what you see.

I've been asked if I have any regrets. Well, I do. The deficit is one. I've been talking a great deal about that lately, but tonight isn't for arguments. And I'm going to hold my tongue. But an observation: I've had my share of victories in the Congress, but what few people noticed is that I never won anything you didn't win for me. They never saw my troops, they never saw Reagan's regiments, the American people. You won every battle with every call you made and letter you wrote demanding action. Well, action is still needed. If we're to finish the job, Reagan's regiments will have to become the Bush brigades. Soon he'll be the chief, and he'll need you every bit as much as I did. Finally, there is a great tradition of warnings in presidential farewells, and I've got one that's been on my mind for some time. But oddly enough it starts with one of the things I'm proudest of in the past eight years: the resurgence of national pride that I called the new patriotism. This national feeling is good, but it won't count for much, and it won't last unless it's grounded in thoughtfulness and knowledge.

An informed patriotism is what we want. And are we doing a good enough job teaching our children what America is and what she represents in the long history of the world? Those of us who are over 35 or so years of age grew up in a different America. We were taught, very directly, what it means to be an American. And we absorbed, almost in the air, a love of country and an appreciation of its institutions. If you didn't get these things from your family, you got them from the neighborhood, from the father down the street who fought in Korea or the family who lost someone at Anzio. Or you could get a sense of patriotism from school. And if all else failed, you could get a sense of patriotism from popular culture. The movies celebrated democratic values and implicitly reinforced the idea that America was special. TV was like that, too, through the mid-'60s

But now, we're about to enter the '90s, and some things have changed. Younger parents aren't sure that an unambivalent appreciation of America is the right thing to teach modern children. And as for those who create the popular culture, well-grounded patriotism is no longer the style. Our spirit is back, but we haven't reinstitutionalized it. We've got to do a better job of getting across that America is freedom--freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of enterprise. And freedom is special and rare. It's fragile; it needs protection.

So, we've got to teach history based not on what's in fashion but what's important: Why the Pilgrims came here, who Jimmy Doolittle was, and what those 30 seconds over Tokyo meant. You know, four years ago on the 40th anniversary of D-Day, I read a letter from a young woman writing of her late father, who'd fought on Omaha Beach. Her name was Lisa Zanatta Henn, and she said, "We will always remember, we will never forget what the boys of Normandy did." Well, let's help her keep her word. If we forget what we did, we won't know who we are. I'm warning of an eradication of the American memory that could result, ultimately, in an erosion of the American spirit. Let's start with some basics: more attention to American history and a greater emphasis on civic ritual. And let me offer lesson No. 1 about America: All great change in America begins at the dinner table. So, tomorrow night in the kitchen I hope the talking begins. And children, if your parents haven't been teaching you what it means to be an American, let 'em know and nail 'em on it. That would be a very American thing to do.

And that's about all I have to say tonight. Except for one thng. The past few days when I've been at that window upstairs, I've thought a bit of the "shining city upon a hill." The phrase comes from John Winthrop, who wrote it to describe the America he imagined. What he imagined was important because he was an early Pilgrim, an early freedom man. He journeyed here on what today we'd call a little wooden boat; and like the other Pilgrims, he was looking for a home that would be free.

I've spoken of the shining city all my political life, but I don't know if I ever quite communicated what I saw when I said it. But in my mind it was a tall proud city built on rocks stronger than oceans, wind-swept, God-blessed, and teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony and peace, a city with free ports that hummed with commerce and creativity, and if there had to be city walls, the walls had doors and the doors were open to anyone with the will and the heart to get here. That's how I saw it and see it still.

And how stands the city on this winter night? More prosperous, more secure, and happier than it was eight years ago. But more than that; after 200 years, two centuries, she still stands strong and true on the granite ridge, and her glow has held steady no matter what storm. And she's still a beacon, still a magnet for all who must have freedom, for all the pilgrims from all the lost places who are hurtling through the darkness, toward home.

We've done our part. And as I walk off into the city streets, a final word to the men and women of the Reagan revolution, the men and women across America who for eight years did the work that brought America back. My friends: We did it. We weren't just marking time. We made a difference. We made the city stronger. We made the city freer, and we left her in good hands. All in all, not bad, not bad at all.

And so, good-bye, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.

Of Voting By Conscience Or In Casting a Protest Vote For a Third Party Candidate

I start off by saying that I am not a big McCain supporter. I do like Mrs. Palin!

Remember when those who felt that George H.W. Bush ran a lackluster campaign and many felt that he was not worth voting for? Those who refused to vote for the Republican Party ticket cast their vote for the third party candidate; He was the Independent Party presidential nominee, Ross Perot. Ross Perot had more of a grass roots support base than do Barr, Baldwin, Keys or Paul enjoy now. What happened in 1992? Perot supporters helped place Bill Clinton into the White House by voting Perot, and we are poised to see history repeat.

I wept the night Clinton was elected. Bill Clinton was suffering from numerous scandal allegations and he still was elected! How could that have been possible? We knew Clinton was corrupt before he was elected, just as we know there’s something fishy about Obama, who has not yet been elected. Ross Perot was responsible for splitting the vote.

Remember on July 16 when Perot unexpectedly dropped out of the presidential race? What did that get us? The Perotbots still voted Perot! Because of that scenario, we, as a nation, endured through eight years of Clinton scandal and corruption. Today we are seeing the results of Clinton administration policies because of legislation that was signed into law by him on November 12, 1999. Let me be fair. Republicans are to blame for some of that legislation signed by Clinton. But, Clinton signed it. Those events in 1999 led to the Wall Street debacle we see today.

It is those who voted for Clinton by voting for Perot that we are still paying the price. All so Perot supporters could make their point. A nice point they made too. I digress.

Today we stand at a precipice in American history. We stand to elect a man who makes Bill Clinton, look like, well, Bill Clinton lite. Obama is a socialist whose allegiance to America is suspect. We really don’t know who Obama in allegiance to. But, it is not the American worker and taxpayer. We know Obama promises to raise taxes on the rich and corporations. By definition, my wife and I are close to meeting the definition of what 'rich' is. We run a small incorporated business and we live in California where the cost of living is high and so are the salaries. It’s all relative.

Anyone knows that those who live in parts of California, New York and other overpriced areas in America may meet Obama's definition of 'rich', but being defined as rich and actually being rich are two different things, especially when one accounts for where in the country a person lives. C'mon folks, a family who makes 100k a year in Kentucky is quite well off. A person who makes 100k in San Francisco or New York is barely making it. Over simplified? Maybe... Some of you smarter folks know of what I speak.

My wife and I struggle just like the family who lives in rural America. Let me ask you; how many political candidates break campaign promises? It happens all the time. If elected, what's to prevent Obama from adjusting his definition of 'rich' down a few notches? What if Obama decides to push for a tax increase on those who have an income of 150k, or maybe 100k? McCain says he won't raise taxes and that he may cut them. That’s change I can hope in, as the alternative of Obama will mean economic death for millions of Americans.

If Obama gets into office, mine and the taxes of millions will be increased. My company will be taxed and regulated into bankruptcy, and I risk losing all I have worked for. Some of you Obama supporters and those of you who relish in participating in class envy, a socialistic concept, are simply orgasmic at the prospect of punishing the 'rich' as defined by Obama's taxation proposals. You haven't the foggiest idea that it is people like me who employ 80% of the people in this country. If my American contemporaries and I go out of business because of Obama's tax proposals, a lot of people lower down the economic ladder are also going to suffer because of higher taxes on individuals and companies. They will be out of a job. This is trickle-down economics in reverse. It is kind of like the laws of physics that says that excrement flows downhill. Take from those who Obama will define as being ‘rich’, and the little guy employed by Obama’s ‘rich’ and their small corporations will get dumped on by that downhill flowing economic excrement.

Back to my original point; On November 4th, who you vote for may be a matter of principle to some of you. Remember this... When the dust settles on November 5th, and if we find that Obama wins because of a repeat of the 1992 election, there will be many Americans who will suffer severe economic harm as soon as Obama’s proposed tax policies are rammed through congress. All this, because of a vote on principle or a vote of conscience.

One last reminder; in the 1992 election, Perot received 18.9% of the popular vote - approximately 19,741,065 votes. This made Perot the most successful third-party presidential candidate in terms of the popular vote. Barr, Baldwin, Paul and Keyes don't hold a candle to the support Perot had. Translate the 1992 scenario to today, and those of you voting your conscience, be it a protest vote, or a vote against both Obama and McCain, you may be responsible for placing Obama in office. Not only will you help Obama realize his dream of socializing this nation, you will assist Obama in breaking the American dream, by stealing it from hard working, honest, business people like me.

Those of you considering voting third party, or planning a write in vote. Don't do it. Your good intentions may be responsible for destroying other American lives. I beg you to reconsider.

Had Enough?

Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, "Stay the course."

Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned Titanic. I'll give you a sound bite: Throw the bums out!

You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore. The President of the United States is given a free pass to ignore the Constitution, tap our phones, and lead us to war on a pack of lies. Congress responds to record deficits by passing a huge tax cut for the wealthy (thanks, but I don't need it). The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Iraq, the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving pom-poms instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of America my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had enough. How about you?

I'll go a step further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have.

My friends tell me to calm down. They say, "Lee, you're eighty-two years old. Leave the rage to the young people." I'd love to—as soon as I can pry them away from their iPods for five seconds and get them to pay attention. I'm going to speak up because it's my patriotic duty. I think people will listen to me. They say I have a reputation as a straight shooter. So I'll tell you how I see it, and it's not pretty, but at least it's real. I'm hoping to strike a nerve in those young folks who say they don't vote because they don't trust politicians to represent their interests. Hey, America, wake up. These guys work for us.

Who Are These Guys, Anyway?

Why are we in this mess? How did we end up with this crowd in Washington? Well, we voted for them—or at least some of us did. But I'll tell you what we didn't do. We didn't agree to suspend the Constitution. We didn't agree to stop asking questions or demanding answers. Some of us are sick and tired of people who call free speech treason. Where I come from that's a dictatorship, not a democracy.

And don't tell me it's all the fault of right-wing Republicans or liberal Democrats. That's an intellectually lazy argument, and it's part of the reason we're in this stew. We're not just a nation of factions. We're a people. We share common principles and ideals. And we rise and fall together.

Where are the voices of leaders who can inspire us to action and make us stand taller? What happened to the strong and resolute party of Lincoln? What happened to the courageous, populist party of FDR and Truman? There was a time in this country when the voices of great leaders lifted us up and made us want to do better. Where have all the leaders gone?

The Test of a Leader

I've never been Commander in Chief, but I've been a CEO. I understand a few things about leadership at the top. I've figured out nine points—not ten (I don't want people accusing me of thinking I'm Moses). I call them the "Nine Cs of Leadership." They're not fancy or complicated. Just clear, obvious qualities that every true leader should have. We should look at how the current administration stacks up. Like it or not, this crew is going to be around until January 2009. Maybe we can learn something before we go to the polls in 2008. Then let's be sure we use the leadership test to screen the candidates who say they want to run the country. It's up to us to choose wisely.

So, here's my C list:

A leader has to show CURIOSITY. He has to listen to people outside of the "Yes, sir" crowd in his inner circle. He has to read voraciously, because the world is a big, complicated place. George W. Bush brags about never reading a newspaper. "I just scan the headlines," he says. Am I hearing this right? He's the President of the United States and he never reads a newspaper? Thomas Jefferson once said, "Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate for a moment to prefer the latter." Bush disagrees. As long as he gets his daily hour in the gym, with Fox News piped through the sound system, he's ready to go.

If a leader never steps outside his comfort zone to hear different ideas, he grows stale. If he doesn't put his beliefs to the test, how does he know he's right? The inability to listen is a form of arrogance. It means either you think you already know it all, or you just don't care. Before the 2006 election, George Bush made a big point of saying he didn't listen to the polls. Yeah, that's what they all say when the polls stink. But maybe he should have listened, because 70 percent of the people were saying he was on the wrong track. It took a "thumping" on election day to wake him up, but even then you got the feeling he wasn't listening so much as he was calculating how to do a better job of convincing everyone he was right.

A leader has to be CREATIVE, go out on a limb, be willing to try something different. You know, think outside the box. George Bush prides himself on never changing, even as the world around him is spinning out of control. God forbid someone should accuse him of flip-flopping. There's a disturbingly messianic fervor to his certainty. Senator Joe Biden recalled a conversation he had with Bush a few months after our troops marched into Baghdad. Joe was in the Oval Office outlining his concerns to the President—the explosive mix of Shiite and Sunni, the disbanded Iraqi army, the problems securing the oil fields. "The President was serene," Joe recalled. "He told me he was sure that we were on the right course and that all would be well. 'Mr. President,' I finally said, 'how can you be so sure when you don't yet know all the facts?'" Bush then reached over and put a steadying hand on Joe's shoulder. "My instincts," he said. "My instincts." Joe was flabbergasted. He told Bush, "Mr. President, your instincts aren't good enough." Joe Biden sure didn't think the matter was settled. And, as we all know now, it wasn't.

Leadership is all about managing change—whether you're leading a company or leading a country. Things change, and you get creative. You adapt. Maybe Bush was absent the day they covered that at Harvard Business School.

A leader has to COMMUNICATE. I'm not talking about running off at the mouth or spouting sound bites. I'm talking about facing reality and telling the truth. Nobody in the current administration seems to know how to talk straight anymore. Instead, they spend most of their time trying to convince us that things are not really as bad as they seem. I don't know if it's denial or dishonesty, but it can start to drive you crazy after a while. Communication has to start with telling the truth, even when it's painful. The war in Iraq has been, among other things, a grand failure of communication. Bush is like the boy who didn't cry wolf when the wolf was at the door. After years of being told that all is well, even as the casualties and chaos mount, we've stopped listening to him.

A leader has to be a person of CHARACTER. That means knowing the difference between right and wrong and having the guts to do the right thing. Abraham Lincoln once said, "If you want to test a man's character, give him power." George Bush has a lot of power. What does it say about his character? Bush has shown a willingness to take bold action on the world stage because he has the power, but he shows little regard for the grievous consequences. He has sent our troops (not to mention hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens) to their deaths—for what? To build our oil reserves? To avenge his daddy because Saddam Hussein once tried to have him killed? To show his daddy he's tougher? The motivations behind the war in Iraq are questionable, and the execution of the war has been a disaster. A man of character does not ask a single soldier to die for a failed policy.

A leader must have COURAGE. I'm talking about balls. (That even goes for female leaders.) Swagger isn't courage. Tough talk isn't courage. George Bush comes from a blue-blooded Connecticut family, but he likes to talk like a cowboy. You know, My gun is bigger than your gun. Courage in the twenty-first century doesn't mean posturing and bravado. Courage is a commitment to sit down at the negotiating table and talk.

If you're a politician, courage means taking a position even when you know it will cost you votes. Bush can't even make a public appearance unless the audience has been handpicked and sanitized. He did a series of so-called town hall meetings last year, in auditoriums packed with his most devoted fans. The questions were all softballs.

To be a leader you've got to have CONVICTION—a fire in your belly. You've got to have passion. You've got to really want to get something done. How do you measure fire in the belly? Bush has set the all-time record for number of vacation days taken by a U.S. President—four hundred and counting. He'd rather clear brush on his ranch than immerse himself in the business of governing. He even told an interviewer that the high point of his presidency so far was catching a seven-and-a-half-pound perch in his hand-stocked lake.

It's no better on Capitol Hill. Congress was in session only ninety-seven days in 2006. That's eleven days less than the record set in 1948, when President Harry Truman coined the term do-nothing Congress. Most people would expect to be fired if they worked so little and had nothing to show for it. But Congress managed to find the time to vote itself a raise. Now, that's not leadership.

A leader should have CHARISMA. I'm not talking about being flashy. Charisma is the quality that makes people want to follow you. It's the ability to inspire. People follow a leader because they trust him. That's my definition of charisma. Maybe George Bush is a great guy to hang out with at a barbecue or a ball game. But put him at a global summit where the future of our planet is at stake, and he doesn't look very presidential. Those frat-boy pranks and the kidding around he enjoys so much don't go over that well with world leaders. Just ask German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who received an unwelcome shoulder massage from our President at a G-8 Summit. When he came up behind her and started squeezing, I thought she was going to go right through the roof.

A leader has to be COMPETENT. That seems obvious, doesn't it? You've got to know what you're doing. More important than that, you've got to surround yourself with people who know what they're doing. Bush brags about being our first MBA President. Does that make him competent? Well, let's see. Thanks to our first MBA President, we've got the largest deficit in history, Social Security is on life support, and we've run up a half-a-trillion-dollar price tag (so far) in Iraq. And that's just for starters. A leader has to be a problem solver, and the biggest problems we face as a nation seem to be on the back burner.

You can't be a leader if you don't have COMMON SENSE. I call this Charlie Beacham's rule. When I was a young guy just starting out in the car business, one of my first jobs was as Ford's zone manager in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. My boss was a guy named Charlie Beacham, who was the East Coast regional manager. Charlie was a big Southerner, with a warm drawl, a huge smile, and a core of steel. Charlie used to tell me, "Remember, Lee, the only thing you've got going for you as a human being is your ability to reason and your common sense. If you don't know a dip of horseshit from a dip of vanilla ice cream, you'll never make it." George Bush doesn't have common sense. He just has a lot of sound bites. You know—Mr.they'll-welcome-us-as-liberators-no-child-left-behind-heck-of-a-job-Brownie-mission-accomplished Bush.

Former President Bill Clinton once said, "I grew up in an alcoholic home. I spent half my childhood trying to get into the reality-based world—and I like it here."

I think our current President should visit the real world once in a while.

The Biggest C is Crisis

Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It's easy to sit there with your feet up on the desk and talk theory. Or send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a battlefield yourself. It's another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling down.

On September 11, 2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. Where was George Bush? He was reading a story about a pet goat to kids in Florida when he heard about the attacks. He kept sitting there for twenty minutes with a baffled look on his face. It's all on tape. You can see it for yourself. Then, instead of taking the quickest route back to Washington and immediately going on the air to reassure the panicked people of this country, he decided it wasn't safe to return to the White House. He basically went into hiding for the day—and he told Vice President Dick Cheney to stay put in his bunker. We were all frozen in front of our TVs, scared out of our wits, waiting for our leaders to tell us that we were going to be okay, and there was nobody home. It took Bush a couple of days to get his bearings and devise the right photo op at Ground Zero.

That was George Bush's moment of truth, and he was paralyzed. And what did he do when he'd regained his composure? He led us down the road to Iraq—a road his own father had considered disastrous when he was President. But Bush didn't listen to Daddy. He listened to a higher father. He prides himself on being faith based, not reality based. If that doesn't scare the crap out of you, I don't know what will.

A Hell of a Mess

So here's where we stand. We're immersed in a bloody war with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving. We're running the biggest deficit in the history of the country. We're losing the manufacturing edge to Asia, while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs. Gas prices are skyrocketing, and nobody in power has a coherent energy policy. Our schools are in trouble. Our borders are like sieves. The middle class is being squeezed every which way. These are times that cry out for leadership.

But when you look around, you've got to ask: "Where have all the leaders gone?" Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, competence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the point.

Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo? We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we know how to do is react to things that have already happened.

Name me one leader who emerged from the crisis of Hurricane Katrina. Congress has yet to spend a single day evaluating the response to the hurricane, or demanding accountability for the decisions that were made in the crucial hours after the storm. Everyone's hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping it doesn't happen again. Now, that's just crazy. Storms happen. Deal with it. Make a plan. Figure out what you're going to do the next time.

Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have believed that there could ever be a time when "the Big Three" referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen—and more important, what are we going to do about it?

Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debt, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry.

I have news for the gang in Congress. We didn't elect you to sit on your asses and do nothing and remain silent while our democracy is being hijacked and our greatness is being replaced with mediocrity. What is everybody so afraid of? That some bobblehead on Fox News will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change?

Had Enough?

Hey, I'm not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I'm trying to light a fire. I'm speaking out because I have hope. I believe in America. In my lifetime I've had the privilege of living through some of America's greatest moments. I've also experienced some of our worst crises—the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War, the Kennedy assassination, the Vietnam War, the 1970s oil crisis, and the struggles of recent years culminating with 9/11. If I've learned one thing, it's this: You don't get anywhere by standing on the sidelines waiting for somebody else to take action. Whether it's building a better car or building a better future for our children, we all have a role to play. That's the challenge I'm raising in this book. It's a call to action for people who, like me, believe in America. It's not too late, but it's getting pretty close. So let's shake off the horseshit and go to work. Let's tell 'em all we've had enough.

In Defense of digg's Undeserved Reputation of Being Left Leaning & Biased

Ever since Senator Obama entered the race for the nomination of his party on Saturday, February 10, 2007, Senator Obama has been a newsworthy personality of cult-like proportions. The stories about his candidacy have been exploding all over digg since that day. It has been seventeen months since Senator Obama’s announcement for a run for the democrat party's nomination, and digg has still not added Obama’s name to the list of correct words within the spell check utility. Every time someone posting on digg runs the spell check utility, the spell check utility prompts the user to correct a typo. McCain’s name doesn’t cause the spell check utility to prompt the user for a misspelling. Obama’s name does. This is proof that digg is not left leaning and biased as digg's critics have been charging. Digg favors McCain while Obama is dissed. Now, a simple request; -Will the staff at digg please step away from the Starbucks Lattes and put away the bongs long enough to fix this? It’s been seventeen months already, and this issue (the biggest in Obama's campaign as far as I can tell) is driving many of us NUTS!

Playing Soldier & The Real Thing - Our Veterans Through The Eyes of A Six Year Old Boy

When we were kids, my brother and I were crazy about playing army. We didn’t play cowboys and Indians. That was for sissies. We played army. We thought of ourselves as hardcore soldiers. Our favorite TV shows were Combat and Hogan’s Heroes. My brother and I had the helmets, the toy rifles the canteens, we used branches and twigs for camouflage and mom would get upset if we used her green eye shadow and black mascara to paint our faces. Any rock or dirt clod was well suited and served as a hand grenade. If we ran out of grenades we would simply pick up a “Potato Masher” grenade that had been thrown at us by a Jerry. By pulling on a handful of long grass, we were able to pull up the roots of the grass with a dirt clod on the end. This served as the “Potato Masher” grenade that we threw back at the Jerry machine gun nest we were to overrun. The hills behind our home became our battlefield. One day we would walk out the back door and we were on Guadalcanal. The next day we were at Normandy. We saw many days of battle.

Because I was the youngest of all our friends and of all the boys in the family, (Girls weren't allowed on the battlefield) I wasn’t always happy with my role in some of our games. My older brother, my cousin, and their friends were always Americans. Sometimes I had to be a Jap or a Jerry. Sometimes I was a POW. One day I protested and I demanded that I wanted to be an American soldier. They said OK. So, I played an American POW. They were the Jerrys that day. I never got a weapon. It was wrong!
Those days are remembered fondly by all of us.

Unbeknownst to us, there was much turmoil and unrest on the social scene during those days. Mom and my step dad were able to shelter us from the nightly news. Little did we know that another war was raging in a place we had never heard of called Viet Nam. People called ‘Hippies’ were protesting the war and they were so angry with our soldiers, that they were downright ugly and disrespectful of our soldiers. The Zodiac killer was in the news and had the San Francisco Bay Area paralyzed with fear. The Black Panthers were in the news too. There was much unrest that we as kids were not even aware of. The only thing we knew is that American soldiers, our heroes, in the form of Astronauts had walked on the moon, and were planning other missions in the Apollo space program.

We didn’t know of Viet Nam. As far as my brother and I were concerned, all soldiers were to be looked up to, they were heroes and our nation had been victorious in WWII. The Japanese and Germans were still the enemy, and when we played war with our friends, none of us wanted to be a stinking Jap or lowdown Jerry when we played army. This is the way it was. We got to be kids, unburdened with the ugliness of the outside world.

In 1971 I was but a naive six your old kid. My older brother was eight. As we did every summer, we hopped a flight aboard the now defunct PSA airlines from Oakland to Phoenix. My brother and I were going to see my dad. Our folks had divorced a few years earlier and my dad got us for two weeks over the summer.

As we were about to get onto our plane, my brother and I walked across the tarmac escorted by a stewardess. We always thought the stewardesses were pretty. The stewardess assisted us as we climbed the stairs to the plane and she showed us to our seats. She made sure that we were buckled us in. My brother got the window, and I was in the middle seat. We could look out the window and see our mom waiting for the plane to take off as she waved at us. We waved back.

I remember sitting on the plane as we waited to leave the gate to take off. That was always exciting. My brother and I looked up, and we saw a soldier making his way down the isle. He must have been a general or something, because he had a chest full of colorful ribbons. At least that is what we thought. He was an old guy too. Probably even older than 20! He was tall, and he was black, just like Reggie Jackson of the Oakland A’s was black. We hadn’t seen too many black people in our time. But now we had a black guy who was a soldier coming down the isle. Then, he sat down next to us! Way cool! A real army guy and black like Reggie Jackson to boot! All we knew was that if this guy was black, a soldier, and had a chest full of ribbons, he had to be a hero and a general! We were dumbfounded. We became shy, and we couldn’t look at him. This guy had to have killed hundred of Japs and Jerrys. We didn’t know how to react.

After a while, the plane took off and soon the pretty stewardess came around with drinks. I remember I took a Coke. My brother did too. I also remember that my brother had a knack at cracking me up at just the right moment when I was taking a drink, so that Coke would squirt out my nose. As it would so happen, my brother pulled his stunt and as usual, I cracked up and the Coke came out of my nose. A large, strong, dark hand appeared in front of me with a napkin. I remember I sheepishly took the napkin from the man and I thanked the man, and then wiped the Coke from my face and shirt. I remember I got up the courage and I looked up at the man and asked, “Are you a real army man?”

“Yes, I am.” He said with a hint of a smile.

My brother asked, “Are all those ribbons and medals on your chest from killin’ Japs n’ Jerrys?”

“No”, he said. “I got these from doing other things in the army. I never killed a Jap or a Jerry.” He went on, “Don’t you boys know it’s rude to ask a soldier if he’s killed someone in battle? Killing enemy soldiers is hurtful to some American soldiers. Those enemy soldiers have wives and little boys just like you.”

“We didn’t mean to do any thing wrong.” My brother replied.

The soldier replied, “Of course not, son. I’m just pointing out some good manners for you to use later, when you see another soldier. Thank him for being brave, for being a hero, and for protecting you. That’s his job and he’s glad to do it. But, don’t ask him about the ugly things of war, like killing. That’s private and some soldiers feel sad that they had to do it even when it was necessary. OK?” The soldier smiled at us.

My brother and I made chit-chat with the soldier for the rest of the flight. As we landed in Phoenix and taxied to the gate, the soldier took off two ribbons from his chest and he pinned one on my brother and one on me. As the stewardess took us off the plane before the rest of the passengers, we said goodbye to our soldier friend. We puffed our chests out with pride. We had an honest for goodness medal, from an honest to goodness, real soldier pinned on our chests!

Our encounter with an American military man made a profound impact in my life. I learned a valuable lesson from him. I learned to always be grateful for the service to our country these fine men and women provide to our nation. I learned what not to ask a soldier, so that I would never hurt his feelings. I learned war causes pain to our soldiers, for some of the tasks that they must undertake while fighting wars, I learned that war is ugly. As ugly as war is, I now know that it is a necessary evil.

That day on the plane took place 35 years ago. It has stuck with me for a very long time. Every so often I think of that soldier and wonder how his life has been. I wonder if he remembers two kids on a plane to Phoenix and if he’d be happy to know that he made a positive impact in our lives. He taught us to appreciate soldiers and to understand the human side of a soldier, if just a little bit.

To him, and to all other soldiers who have served in war and in peace, I share another lesson taught to me by that soldier on the plane,

To always stop and thank a soldier for their service to our country.

Please pray for our soldiers.

About The Clark Brothers
We learned to play music in churches and at bluegrass festivals. Our dad is a traveling evangelist. He taught us all to play by ear.

We grew up traveling with our family. The three of us (Adam, Ashley and Austin) ended up in Nashville working for various country artists. We saw a commercial looking for "The Next Great American Band." We made a video of us jamming in Austin's basement, and called ourselves "The Clark Brothers." We mailed our entry the last day of the deadline! We got a phone call a week later.

The producers asked us to come play in Atlanta, and from there we made the cut to Las Vegas. With no drummer or bass player we thought we would be out the first round, but they liked us well enough to send us to California to start taping the show. We decided to take a leap of faith, quit our jobs in Nashville and give it everything we had. Every week we kept making it through.

We just took the songs they gave us and made them our own. We never imagined we would win the whole thing! We are still in shock. It's just been one miracle after another. We have always wanted to make a record that comes from our heart.

We are blessed to be in a band with each other making our music. We love people and we are so thankful for every one who helped us and voted for us.
