What Is Best For America Isn't What Is Best For Congress? Congress Exempts Itself From National Healthcare

Radio show host Glen Meakem on his website asks: If the healthcare overhaul legislation currently being considered in Congress will provide increased care and lower costs for everyone, then why have members of both the U.S. House and Senate exempted themselves from any resulting public option?

Representative John Fleming (R-LA) responded to this question by sponsoring H. Res. 615, a resolution that encourages “members of Congress who vote to create a government-run health insurance agency to give up their own comprehensive health insurance plans to join the new the public option they advocate for others.”

As of August 11, 2009, 69 House Representatives have signed on to this bill and all of them are Republicans.
